Bob Bradshaw Band, Carla Ryder and The Blue Ribbons Trio

Bob Bradshaw Band, Carla Ryder and The Blue Ribbons Trio
Bob Bradshaw Band - Irish-born, Boston-based Bob Bradshaw has been exploring many facets of Americana music in the thirty years he’s lived in the States – from the Texas singer-songwriters he strives to emulate to the high-energy roots-rock he plays in bar bands any night of the week. He has lived in New York City and in San Francisco, where his rock band ‘Resident Aliens’ was a fixture on the local scene during the 90’s. He graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 2009, having mostly played in bluegrass ensembles there. ‘Queen Of The West’ is his eighth album of original songs. For the Burren Backroom Album release show, Bradshaw will be joined by Andrew Stern on guitar, James Rohr on keyboards, Ed Lucie on bass, Mike Connors on drums, and Britt Connors and Carla Ryder on vocals.

‘Queen of The West’ is a fever dream – thirteen cross-connected songs in which a small cast of characters explore issues of identity, struggle with loss, and – as in all the best westerns – seek redemption. The ‘Queen Of The West’ herself - Ruby Black - is both a gun-toting femme fatale and an anguished mother pleading with the saints for the life of her son. There’s heartache and humor aplenty in these stories with their allusions to western notions of the outlaw, and the quest for faith through religion. Mining parallels between the west of Bradshaw’s native Ireland, and the frontiers of the American west, the songs are told through the same characters. Bradshaw cites Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’ album as an influence in the making of ‘Queen Of The West.’

Some just in for ‘Queen Of The West’ - David White, RnR: “Rich in colour and detail, a album of contrasts that nestle harmoniously, ‘Queen Of The West’ is hugely impressive, rewarding its author’s ambition and this listener’s expectations.” John Sobel, Blogcritcs: “a through-conceived album of beautifully composed songs, written by Bradshaw and a few collaborators, richly arranged, played with taste and skill, and unusually deep and memorable”. Midwest Record: “We haven’t had something like this that works as effectively since Willie Nelson’s ‘Red Headed Stranger’.” Rootsville:“Brilliant!”

Carla Ryder and The Blue Ribbons Trio - By press and by fans, Carla Ryder has been described as sounding like: A little 'British Invasion', a touch of garage crooner, lots of pop, folk and hook, with a bit of front porch thrown in for good measure.

Carla Ryder is a wife, mother, and inner-city public school teacher; yet still manages to maintain her role as accomplished front-woman, singer, and songwriter. With a total of 6 albums under her belt, she has toured extensively and developed a loyal and enthusiastic following from New England to the Pacific Northwest. A true storyteller, she writes from the heart and from the gut a lyrical portrait of the human condition. Whether confessional, self-mocking or anecdotal she passionately blends her experiences with those of others and the world around her. Her sound has been described as rootsy and raw, soulful and soaring. Carla has crafted a style that is tender, heart warming, uplifting and redemptive. Her charm, presence and humor exude a connection to the audience so deep that from the crowd, you feel that you know her personally.
