World Wide Music Day Concert Benefitting Musicians Without Borders

World Wide Music Day Concert Benefitting Musicians Without Borders
Jamie Dunphy

Jamie Dunphy and True North features three veterans of the Boston music scene: Jamie Dunphy (Mill City Trio, Jamie Dunphy Band), Seth Peterson (The Gone Boys, Capital 6) and Tod Salmonson (The Snap Daddies). Together, the three create what one recent concert-goer called a "magical" combination, playing with energy, passion and creativity. The trio formed in June of 2018 to play a few of Dunphy's new songs at last year's World Wide Music Day concert, and have been performing regularly since, writing new material as they go. Tonight the band celebrates the release of their new EP, No More Waiting, which Metronome Magazine called "nothing short of ingenious," citing "brilliantly crafted lyrics and magnificent guitar work." Tickets include a free copy of the CD.

The Splendid Nobodies

Upon the release of their debut record, “Coming Back Around,” the Boston Herald wrote, "The Splendid Nobodies play the hell out of their instruments and songs…” Later the Herald placed the disc on a year end list of 10 Boston records worthy of being heard by a wider audience and described the Nobodies' sound as "equal parts Carl Perkins, the Flying Burrito Brothers and The Rolling Stones."  The Boston Globe featured the group in an article claiming, "Boston's Splendid Nobodies is a humble crew - in everything, that is, but musicianship.  The Nobodies' musical universe merges blues rock, traditional country, and rockabilly."  The four piece band's follow up record, “Strange Trip,” was described as having "more heartfelt songs with thicker textures and even stronger musicianship” by Skope Magazine. They claimed, “Authenticity abounds in these tracks, and it sometimes becomes hard to believe the band is from Boston and not Nashville." Their latest record, "Shortcut to Now," was described by The Noise in Boston as “Splendid country-inflected rock with lyric inventiveness...all kinds of good stuff, a boogie-woogie of classic dimensions, a nice fingerpicking old timey shout with a clever gospel twist, ballads and roistering toe-tappers.”

Johnny Bickford

Johnny Bickford has been a singer/songwriter/performer for three decades.  His love of music has fueled his songwriter to span several genres, from roots rock, to edgy pop alternative, to alt-country and folk.

Starting in the late 80’s in the band 23 Skidoo, and then in the 90s in the band Zen Lunatic (nominated best new local band, Boston Music Awards, 1996)  Johnny has been crafting songs and performing throughout New England and the greater Boston area. More recently, Johnny has been one of the creative forces behind the alt-country band Hayseed Prophets.  Currently Johnny Bickford is the lead singer/songwriter for the band Capital 6. His current solo album, Invisible Man, can be streamed on Spotify.
