Love Love, Russell Chudnofsky

Love Love, Russell Chudnofsky
the LOVE LOVE story…

Chris Toppin asked Jefferson Riordan to come over and help her finish a murder-ballad she was working on. He loved murder-ballads, and he also had a couple love songs. They fell in love while collaborating and LOVE LOVE was born, a rock band that explores the dark as well as the light. Dual lead vocals, male and female; poignant, sometimes macabre lyrics. Psych-country-soul overtones. Groove and grace.

Though LOVE LOVE has gone through multiple iterations since Chris and Jefferson started writing together in the summer of 2013, the straight line through has always been their voices, two voices that always belonged together. The band’s debut album was released in May of 2015, and their follow-up, Picture, in May of 2018. Both received critical acclaim. Of their debut, Jeff Burger of No Depression admired, “This eponymous album ranks among the most auspicious debuts I’ve heard so far this year…a lush, complex sound.” Of their second album and their live performance, Boston legend Jen Trynin cheered, “LOVE LOVE creates beautiful music with swing and swagger and their show is full of humor and danger, all big plusses in my book!” For LL it’s simple: make music from the heart, music that is both adventurous and honest.

A new EP, the Rhode Island eepee, is due out in May of 2019. It features three songs that are in some way about the state of Rhode Island. Chris is from Rhode Island, and her love-hate relationship with her home state prompted Jefferson to write a song about it that might change her perspective a little. It worked! Soon Chris was also writing songs about Rhode Island.

The EP also features songs that are not about Rhode Island. They’re about love, murder, getting high in Philadelphia, nostalgia and the state of the music industry. Chris and Jefferson are joined by Chris Michaels on drums, Phil Magnifico on bass, Elizabeth Steen on accordion and keyboards, and Makala Noble on backing vocals. The EP was recorded at top Boston-area studios, including Zippah, Q-Division, and BKitty. LOVE LOVE will be touring in support of the EP this spring and summer.
