Jenee Halstead, Ali McGuirk, Hana Kahn - Claiming Our Power: A Fundraiser for BARCC

Jenee Halstead, Ali McGuirk, Hana Kahn - Claiming Our Power: A Fundraiser for BARCC
Claiming Our Power: A Fundraiser for BARCC' is an evening designed to create a safe space for Survivors, music lovers, and those seeking education to come together in the embrace of self-love and recovery. BARCC, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, provides a platform to "end sexual violence through healing and social change," and will be leading an interactive Q & A to start off the night. Musicians Hana Kahn, Ali McGuirk, and Jenee Halstead will follow the Q & A with intimate performances and glimpses into their own lives to bring us all together.

Jenee Halstead

Her latest release, “Edge of the World,” adds to the indefinable soundscape in which her soft and supple voice floats so exquisitely that the Boston Herald felt it “like sorceress music, rings of smoke through the trees and the bells of Rhymney,” while comparing Jenee’s working relationship with new producer Sean McLaughlin to that of Emmylou Harris and Daniel Lanois for the way it “embedded a tremendous voice in an otherworldly, shadowy soundscape.”

Spot on. With her gift for wonderfully evocative lyrical imagery, delivered with such a compelling voice, it’s easy to foresee that Jenee’s unfettered songwriting will continue to rise — like those swirling rings of smoke — into the expansive sky, and far beyond the edge of the world.

Ali McGuirk

Ali McGuirk has made a career of captivating audiences with her unique blend of hypnotic R&B grooves, folk songwriter lyricism, classic soul delivery, and a gravelly blues temperament. With a focus on lively improvisation, a taste for heavy grooves, and her own buttery voice, her earliest years as a performer were spent earning residencies across 4 continents, from Santorini to Hong Kong. Ali has recently settled in Boston, where she has been steadily gaining recognition as one of the city's most compelling vocal performers. In 2016, she was recognized in the Boston Globe as an "artist to hear" by the influential Boston rock critic Steve Morse. In November 2017, she released her first full-length album, "Slow Burn," which was named as one of Steve Morse's Top Ten Albums of 2017, garnishing a full page spread in the Boston Herald and the attention that contributed to Ali's 2017 Boston Music Award Nomination for Best New Artist.

Hana Kahn

Hana Kahn is a pop powerhouse singer-songwriter whose “emotional nakedness and elegant musicianship” (Zach Weg, The Deli Magazine) drive her message of the importance of authenticity and vulnerability. Combining empowering ballads, catchy upbeat numbers and stories from her unconventional background, Hana’s performance is not only encapsulating, but leaves audiences fueled and inspired to follow their own dreams.

Fall of 2017 brought the release of Hana's latest single, Find Me, a tune written to capture Hana's transition from Victim to Survivor. With this track and her upcoming debut album, Found (due out in 2019), Hana hopes to share her truth: It is possible, not only to recover, but to thrive.
